Art Techniques and Tips

Hi! I am hoping this blog can be a place for artists of all mediums to exchange ideas, talk about their art, and help eachother with any tips you may have.

My first tip is for pastels. Don't throw away your little nibs of pastels. Organize them by color then grind them to a powder with a mortar and pestle. Add a little rubbing alcohol to make a paste and reform into a pastel shape with your hands. (It would be a good idea to wear rubber gloves here!) Once the alcohol evpaorates it's ready to use!

I hope we can get a lot more great information from all of you creative people out there!

Children's Art Classes

Henne's strives to provide art classes for our your artists that will ignite their creative sparks for fine art.


Indian Basket Weaving Students will learn how to weave their own baskets using recycled materials . Weds., 3:30-4:30pm, Grades 4-6 12/2/09, K-3 12/9/09. Cost: $10

Musial Art Studens learn music can be used to create ideas & images. The children will listen to several pieces of music and draw the pictures they imagine. Wed., 3:30-4:30pm. Grades 4-6 12/16/09, K-3 12/30/09. Cost $10

Paint Like An Egyptian Children will view examples of Egyptian art. Then they will create profile portraits of themselves in the Egyptian art style. 3:30-4:30pm. Cost: $10. 4-6 grades: Wed. Jan. 6, 2010. grades k-3 Wed. Jan. 13, 2010.

Bottle People Students will learn about doll making and the concepts of additive sculpture while creating their own animal or person bottle doll. 3:30-4:30pm. Cost: $10. grades 4-6: Wed. Jan 20, 2010 grades K-3: Wed, Jan 27, 2010.

Palette Knife Painting Learn painting knife techniques to create sweeping areas and tiny shapes of color to add texture and drama to your paintings. Instructor, Becky Manges. 3wks, 9am-noon, January 4, 11, 18, 2010. Cost: $56 + supplies.

Guided Oil Painting - Adult & Teens Instructor Iris Teeter will teach you painting techniques to complete a beautiful oil painting. 3wks, Thursdays, 5-8pm. Cost $59.00 + supplies. Classes will resume in January! Date & subject to be announced.
